Clouds

We were caught up in the clouds.

When our eyes were drawn up toward the dizzying heights of ambition and out toward the delicious realm of dreamland and desires, a shadow fell upon our own land. We could not wait to get away.

When we strove to do away with our ordinary duties, completing them with one eye on the time, the other eye on people’s reactions, and our heart a million miles away, life seemed to be a drag; a waste of energy. We jumped at the first opportunity to leave.

When we left our hum-drum lives behind to climb the heights, to explore dreamland, our hearts and feet faltered as we realised we were walking on sinking sand. We had to turn back.

When we thought about the burdens we had neglected and how others may have suffered as a result, we ran the rest of the way home to find our duties still undone. We could not recognise the world which had once been so familiar, so home-like, for everything had gone to wrack and ruin.

How much better it would have been to work diligently, with both eyes seeing the task at hand, with a heart fixed on eternity rather than empty dreams!

They were the wrong clouds.

~For the unborn, the elderly, and those in between, whose lives have been taken prematurely~

~No abortion, no euthanasia, no neglect~

1 Thessalonians 4 shows us a pattern for a life of Godliness, offers hope and comfort to us about our loved ones who have died in the faith, and commands us to encourage each other with this beautiful promise:

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

(Verses 16, 17)

Until then, let us spread life and hope… not take them away.
